The strategy assumes that public leaders are willing to find more money for libraries if given the chance to do so. Is this in fact a good strategy? Is there likely to be more pressure to find funding if libraries are open or if they are closed?
Is it perhaps the librarians' fault after all? Fortunately for those in need of information, they have many options. If they have money, they can find someone to sell them services. They can dump the information search on their secretaries. If all else fails, they can pretend that they didn't need the information after all. It is a long-standing observation in academia that the more we learn, the more we become aware of how little we know. Those who know the least generally think they know everything.
What would be the reaction of the American Bar Association if a children's librarian were nominated for the Supreme Court?
